Yogyakarta is a special region in Central Java. It is one of the most visited place in Indonesia due to its natural beauty and a cultural heritage. You can find almost everything from beach, mountain, sultan palace and also temples. Yogyakarta is a place where modern and traditional is blend into such a unique city.
The area of Yogyakarta is 32.5 square kilometers with about 500.000 local people live there. The Yogyakarta center place is the Sultan Palace or known as Kraton. Kraton is surrounded by Taman Sari which was built on 1758 as a pleasure garden. Currently Taman Sari has become public garden which can be visited my tourist.
Just nearby the city of Yogyakarta there is Mount Merapi which is an active Strata volcano. It is also the most active volcano in Indonesia due to its regular eruption.
In Yogyakarta you can find various place to stay from the five star hotels to backpacker hostels. There is an area in Yogyakarta which famous within traveller named Prawirotaman. Prawirotaman is an area located about five kilometers from the center of Yogyakarta city and not too far from Tugu Train Station and Malioboro. h. Pawon Temple which is a midpoint linking of Borobudur and Mendut temple
i. Mendut Temple which is a throne of Buddha Statue

a. Mount Merapi/Kaliadem
Mount merapi is an active volcano which attracts many hikers. In Kaliadem you can see the real face of Merapi. It is located 25km in north Yogyakarta.
Kaliurang is located 28km away from Yogyakarta which famous for its enchanted natural beauty and a favorite family recreation. It’s 900M above sea level which made Kaliurang has fresh and cold air breeze. You can also see Mount Merapi from here while the children enjoying the playground.
c. Kalisuci Cave Tubing
Kalisuci is located in Semanu, Gunungkidul. You can go along with the river flowing through the cave in the bowels of the earth. Known as cave tubing, this activity combines caving and body rafting activity.
d. Jomblang Cave
Jomblang Cave islLocated on the range of karst hills in the southern coastal spread along Gombong, Central Java up to karst area in Sewu Mountain, Pacitan, West Java, this vertical cave has collapse do line. It was constructed from a geological process when the land and its vegetation vanished into the bowel of the earth thousand years ago
3. Beautiful Beaches
Yogyakarta maybe famous for its cultural heritage, but it also has many beautiful beaches that cannot be missed.
This maybe one of the most popular beach in Yogyakarta. It is located 27 km south of Yogyakarta and easily accessible by public transportation. You can also enjoy to drive the ATV in its white sand. Please be ensure to also clim to Gembirawati cliff which located just behind the beach
Ngobaran is a unique beach since bot only you can enjoy the sand and waves but you can find a temple with ornaments of god statues in white color. The location of the beach with high cliff is is around 332km at the south of Wonosari.
Drini Beach is one of the special beaches along Gunungkidul coastal line and it has a small island floating in, dividing the beach into two parts. Inthe East side of the beach, there is coral reefs stand tall while the West side offers another rich exoticism-outrigger boats on anchors.
In its City Center there are also many attractive spot that must be visited when you are in Yogyakarta
a. Taman Sari
Taman Sari was built on 1758 as a pleasure garden. Currently Taman Sari has become public garden which can be visited my tourist.
b. Kraton/ Sultan Palace
Kraton is the place where Sultan and his family lives in. currently you can also visit museum which display the art collection. The tourist also can enjoy many traditional show such as wayang and traditional dance
You cannot miss to visit Malioboro. In here you can find the real Yogyakarta culinary and also shop for some souvenirs. Do not forget to bargain to get the best deal
d. Pecinan/Chinese Village
Pecinan is located in south side of Malioboro which known as a place for commercial shop.
How to get there
As one of the largest city in Indonesia, there are many choices of transportation mode which enable you to get there. You can use direct flight from various capital city such as Jakarta, Bali, Balikpapan, Surabaya or any other city to Adisucipto airport. Adisucipto also serve direct flights from Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.
Or if you use land transport such as bus or car then it will take approximately 12 hours from Jakarta. Buses are serve from various city around java island. Yogyakarta main bus terminal, is Giwangan which located 5km southeast of the city center. Bus 3B connects it with Tugu Train Station and Jl Malioboro.
If you don’t want to waste time then you can also choose Train and get off in Tugu Train Station. Actually Yogyakarta has two train station, Tugu railway station which serves business and executive class trains, and Lempuyangan Station which serves economy class trains. Both stations are located in the heart of the city.
